DG   Douglas County, Kansas, was established in 1855.  It was one of Kansas’ original 36 counties and named for Stephen Douglas, a U.S. Senator from Illinois.  He advocated popular vote to determine the Kansas slavery question. The county seat of Douglas County is Lawrence, Kansas.
