His many friends in this county were grieved to learn of the death of Ed Murphy, although his age and long and serious illness caused it to be not unexpected. Few men had as many friends, won by his own friendliness and kindness. For 29 years he was superintendent of the County Home. In this work he was ably assisted by his loyal wife who preceded him in death, February 11, 1940. Mr. Murphy was superintendent of the county home at the time the County Commissioners decided to close the Home and care for their charges in other ways. Mr. and Mrs. Murphy moved to Wamego and continued to care for a number of people who would not have felt at home with anyone except the Murphys.  The Wamego Reporter, Wamego, Kansas.  April 4, 1940.  (c) Transcribed by Janeice Crosson for the Kansas Council of Genealogical Societies, Inc.
